Founded in 1971, the Academy of Arts exists to train and inspire the next generation of servant leaders to properly use the universal gift of communication for others’ good and God’s glory.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Thank you for your interest in our college program! We are excited to share more information with you as you pray about where the Lord is calling you to attend! There are a number of things that make our program unique and purposefully strategic to train and equip college-age students for their future ministry.
1. WE ARE A MULTI-FACETED MINISTRY!
The Academy Of Arts is comprised of several avenues of outreach: The Logos Theatre, Venture Films, the Conservatory, Week-long Drama Seminars (traveling ministry to schools and homeschool groups during the school year), Summer Ministry Teams (traveling to churches for a one-night drama ministry), and our Co-op that provides classes in acting, choir, dance, film and sign language for ages 7-18. We do not apologize that we are a ministry – that is our heart first and foremost! We wish through all these different facets to “make the Bible come alive in minds and hearts through the power of storytelling.” Of course, this applies to the Conservatory as well. Students need to enter our program realizing that they will be a part of a hands-on, ministry-minded, immersive, discipleship experience.
2. WE ARE SMALL IN ENROLLMENT ON PURPOSE.
We have chosen to cap our student body at 40 students each year, and have done so for several reasons. One of the reasons for limiting our enrollment is that one of the main purposes for our program is to train up future staff members for The Academy of Arts Ministry. Because of this purpose, we desire our college program to remain small in order for us to sufficiently train, disciple, and establish a relationship with each student coming through the program. Whether our graduates stay on as staff members after graduation or move on to other avenues of ministry, it is our desire that through their time here, each student takes their next steps in their relationship with the Lord, become grounded in the truths of God’s Word and in working to become a master in communication for God’s glory!
3. WE ARE A HANDS-ON PROGRAM.
Because of the philosophy and purpose of our program, the students do not have many sessions where they are simply sitting and listening in a traditional classroom setting. It has been proven that the skills we teach are best learned by doing, as opposed to just sitting and listening to someone lecture on how something is done. Because of this, our classes are designed to ensure that the students have as much hands-on opportunity as possible, while being instructed. For example, instead of just watching a staff member in class make a set piece, such as a table, the students are given the training, the tools, and the materials, then allowed to make the table themselves with the instructor’s supervision. By the end of the training sessions, our students will not only have heard and watched how to make a set piece, but they will have done the task themselves. This ensures that all the skills that the instructors are trying to teach are understood by our students and solidified in their minds by using the principle of ‘learning by doing’.
4. THERE IS NOTHING “TYPICAL” ABOUT US.
If you are looking for more of a typical college experience with a system of set classes in each semester leading to a degree, our program is most likely not a good fit for you. However, if you are looking for a program that offers much more than a degree, focuses on discipleship, flexibility and growing the skills of each student both in their craft and in life, then we’d love for you to prayerfully consider joining us.
Enrollment Options
Apprenticeship Program
(Associate’s Degree – 2 years)
The Academy of Arts Apprenticeship Program is a rigorous hands-on opportunity for students to not only receive immersive time and training in their chosen department, but also to receive mentorship for the purpose of becoming a future staff members with the Logos Theatre. Because of this unique purpose, students are highly vetted before entry to the program and the number of students accepted is limited.
Students who are accepted will be given opportunities to be intricately involved in mounting, and potentially performing in, several full scale stage productions at the Logos Theatre as well as touring Logos Theatre shows. Students in the program are mentored, discipled, and taught in a biblical philosophy of the arts throughout their time in the apprenticeship with the express purpose of raising up the next generation of warriors in this crucial field. Our ministry has been targeting the stronghold of the enemy over the arts for over 50 years, and it is because of this first hand knowledge of the intensity of this fight to reclaim the arts for Christ, that we choose to mirror the Apostle Paul’s method of recruitment of the young man Timothy when we speak to students about entering our program. In our production on the life of the Apostle Paul, he says to Timothy,
“In asking thee to come with me on this my second journey, I do not speak of signs, of wonders, of miracles. I tell thee of constant journeyings, perils of robbers, perils of waters, the danger of the heathen, and the hatred of the Jews. I speak of cold and nakedness, hunger and thirst, and perhaps even beatings and stonings. Besides all these things, Timotheus, there cometh upon me daily the care of all the churches. These things I offer thee.”
This is what we at The Academy of Arts offer those who wish to join us.
Though there will be much joy, incredible opportunities, excitement, and learning, there will also be much hardships, stretching of oneself, tiredness, and struggle. We are looking for young people who are not shaken by these things but who stand willing to do the “hard things” for the sake of lost souls and their love and faith in Christ!

Master’s Degree
Our Master’s Degree students will travel on our Dramatic Word Seminars for two years. A Drama Seminar is a week-long, action-packed evangelistic-focused drama week that gives Christian schools and homeschool groups a professional drama experience with an eternal focus. In one week, elementary or high school students work together under the seminar team’s guidance to set up, rehearse, and perform a full-scale production! Master students will learn how to produce and teach all aspects of dramatic production (costumes, sets, technical, directing, makeup, etc.) to these elementary and high school students throughout the country. In addition to this intensive training, each master student will learn and perform their own one person drama of choice. This drama will be performed in costume and with the sets and props that each master student chooses to incorporate. Master students will also train and grow in ministry and counseling.
Those applying for the Master’s degree should have an undergraduate degree in some aspect of dramatic production/theater. Students will need to commit to training during the summer at our Logos Theatre during our summer camps in preparation for traveling during the school year with the seminar team. We are looking for students who have a passion for Christ and for teaching young people to develop their talents for the Lord and His work!
Application Process for Masters:
1) Application & Application Fee
2) Reference Letters received
3) High School/College transcripts received
4) Background check.
*A background check must be completed for all Master students applying as this is required for many schools and states that Master students will be touring to while on the seminar team.
